About

Test Analyst – Agile Delivery (PHP / Windows Stack)

A large-scale national digital transformation program is seeking an experienced Test Analyst to support a multi-phase software delivery initiative. This role will focus on quality assurance across all stages of the project lifecycle — from unit testing through to user acceptance and regression testing — in a Windows–Apache–PHP environment, leveraging a proprietary non-relational database.

This is a full-time or contract opportunity open to candidates based in Melbourne or Canberra, with mostly remote work and occasional travel to major cities as required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and execute detailed test plans and test cases based on technical specifications, functional requirements, and user stories.
  • Collaborate with developers to improve unit test coverage and align testing with acceptance criteria.
  • Build and maintain automated regression tests tailored to the Windows–Apache–PHP stack.
  • Conduct system integration testing (SIT) to validate internal and external component interactions.
  • Coordinate and facilitate User Acceptance Testing (UAT), including preparation of test data, scheduling cycles, and managing defect triage.
  • Participate in test case walkthroughs with developers, business analysts, and product owners to confirm accuracy and completeness.
  • Use Azure DevOps (or equivalent) for test planning, defect tracking, and results reporting.
  • Document test outcomes, create traceability matrices, and contribute to go-live assessments.
  • Support performance, usability, and security testing efforts where required.

Mandatory Requirements
  • Australian Citizenship and the ability to obtain an AGSVA Baseline Security Clearance.
  • Bachelor’s degree in IT, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in software testing roles, preferably within Agile delivery teams.
  • Proven skills in unit, integration, regression, and UAT testing.
  • Hands-on experience writing and maintaining automated tests (e.g., Selenium, PHPUnit).
  • Technical proficiency with Windows OS, Apache Server, PHP, and non-relational databases.
  • Familiarity with Azure DevOps or similar application lifecycle management (ALM) tools.
  • Strong understanding of Agile and SDLC best practices.
  • Excellent documentation and communication skills, with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical audiences.

Desirable Skills
  • Experience with PHP testing frameworks such as PHPUnit, Codeception, or Behat.
  • Exposure to IRAP-compliant environments or other regulated testing standards.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps automation tools.
  • Understanding of querying non-relational or proprietary databases.
  • Ability to contribute to testing strategies and continuously improve QA processes.

What’s on Offer
  • Work on a high-impact national digital transformation initiative.
  • Join a collaborative Agile delivery team with diverse technical capabilities.
  • Enjoy flexible working conditions and a results-driven team culture.
  • Contribute to a system that supports public sector innovation and regulation.
